Fall Arts Classes - Main Library

The following adult arts classes are being offered for the fall:

Oil Painting: Landscape and Still Life - Tuesdays, 10 am to Noon, Sept. 28 - Nov. 17 | Paul McMillan, teaching artist

Memoir through Poetry - Wednesdays, 10 am to Noon, Oct. 14 - Nov. 18 | Laurie McMillan, workshop facilitator

Oriental Brush Art - Thursdays, 10 am to Noon, Oct. 1 - 29 | Deborah Kollar, teaching artist

Computer Classes - Main Library

New computer classes and assistance are starting for the fall.

Computer Basics - If you are new to computers or looking for a refresher of the basics, this class is for you.  Classes begin Wednesday, September 23, 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.

Resume & Application Assistance - Help will be available the first three Fridays of each month, 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. to assist in your resume writing and application form completion.  September 18 is the first day.

General Book Discussion Group

After a summer vacation our Book Group returns in September to discuss Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson on Wednesday, September 30, 1-2 PM.

Appearing on several Best Books of 2014 lists, this is a powerful true story of how mercy can redeem us and a call to fix our justice system.

Copies are available at the circulation desk.  Everyone is welcome to join the discussion of this compelling book.

Knitting Classes - Eastridge

Knitting classes are continuing at our Eastridge branch every Tuesday, 1:30-3:00 PM.  Just like the crochet class, you supply the materials, and the lessons are FREE!  Dianne suggests you bring a skein of worsted yarn and size 7 or 8 needles to your first session.  Sign up at the registration desk or call 412-342-0056.  Don't delay - space is limited.   

Crochet Classes

Crochet Classes are continuing for both beginners as well as experienced crocheters looking for a refresher class.  Frankie has classes on Mondays at 2 PM in the adult dept. of the Wilkinsburg Public Libary and Saturdays at 11 AM at our Eastridge Branch Library.

General Fiction Book Group

The new General Fiction Book Group will have its first meeting Wednesday, March 26 at 6 PM at the library.  Robert Goolrick's novel The Reliable Wife has been selected as the first book

Copies of the book are available at the circulation desk.  Everyone is welcome to attend.

The General Fiction Book Group will meet the fourth Wednesday of every month.

Freegal Music Available to Library Cardholders

You can now download free music and video to your computer through Freegal at the Carnegie Libraries of Pittsburgh if you have a valid library card. Cardholders may download 5 free songs or 1 video and 1 song per week. The songs are DRM-free, which means they do not expire, and can be moved from your computer to other devices such as iPods, iPhones, Droids, etc. Choose from millions of songs, by tens of thousands of artists, or from 5,000 music videos. A new tool for job searching is available.  Today, you have to apply for most jobs online. You will also need an email account to complete an online job application.  We have made it easy for you to get an email account and some guidlines for online job searching.  At the top of page click on Services, then click How to Apply for a Job.    Good luck finding your next job!

Need to create a resume and you don't know where to start?  Try Cypress Resume, a resume making software we now offer.  Click HERE to start using this easy, well organized program to create your own unique resume.   Enter your library card to get started.  Currently, the software is available only to library computer users but will be available through remote access soon.
