HOLIDAY CLOSING

The libraries will be closed Friday, April 18 through Sunday, Arpril 20 for Good Friday.  Wilkinsburg Main will reopen Monday, April 21, at 10AM and Eastridge will reopen Tuesday, April 22, at 10AM. 

Growing Your Garden

It’s time to play in the dirt again!  Growing Your Garden is a series of three classes for the beginner and the experienced gardener alike.  All the basics will be covered to help make your yard or porch a successful vegetable, herb or flower garden this year. 

Classes will be held on Tuesdays, April 15, 22 & 29 at 2:00 pm.  Veteran Wilkinsburg gardener Ken Pruszynski will share his expertize with his home garden along with his work at the Borland Garden Cooperative in East Liberty.

Financial Checkup 101

Ryan Hall from Fifth Third Bank will be presenting Financial Checkup 101 for adults Monday, April 21 at 6:00 pm.

This information class will give everyone a quick overview of all the various financial options/decisions we may face throughout our lives.  Saving, budgeting, identity protection, using credit wisely, investing options and saving for college will all be covered.

This is the first in a series of classes on Banking Basics.

General Fiction Book Group

The Shack by William Young will be discussed at the General Fiction Book Group meeting on Wednesday, April 23 at 1 PM.  Copies of the book are now available at the circulation desk.  Everyone is welcome to join the discussion.

The General Fiction Book Group meets the fourth Wednesday of each month.

Urban Fiction Book Group

The new Urban Fiction Book Group will meet Monday, April 28 at 6 PM at the library.  Most Wanted  by Kiki Swinson and Nikki Turner will be discussed. 

Copies of the book are available at the circulation desk.  Everyone is welcome to attend.

The Urban Fiction Book Group meets the last Monday of each month.

Freegal Music Available to Library Cardholders

You can now download free music and video to your computer through Freegal at the Carnegie Libraries of Pittsburgh if you have a valid library card. Cardholders may download 3 free songs or 1 video and 1 song per week. The songs are DRM-free, which means they do not expire, and can be moved from your computer to other devices such as iPods, iPhones, Droids, etc. Choose from millions of songs, by tens of thousands of artists, or from 5,000 music videos. A new tool for job searching is available.  Today, you have to apply for most jobs online. You will also need an email account to complete an online job application.  We have made it easy for you to get an email account and some guidlines for online job searching.  At the top of page click on Services, then click How to Apply for a Job.    Good luck finding your next job!

Need to create a resume and you don't know where to start?  Try Cypress Resume, a resume making software we now offer.  Click HERE to start using this easy, well organized program to create your own unique resume.   Enter your library card to get started.  Currently, the software is available only to library computer users but will be available through remote access soon.

Need to PRACTICE for your SAT, ACT or GMAT test?  Does your chosen career require you to pass a standardized test?

FREE Knitting Classes

Knitting classes at our Eastridge Library! 

Our teacher, Dianne Laughlin, is teaching knitting every Tuesday at 1:30 PM.  Just like the crochet class, you supply the materials, and the lessons are FREE!  Dianne suggests you bring a skein of worsted  yarn and size 7 or 8 needles to your first session.  You can  register in person, send an email to wilkinsburg@einetwork.net with your name & contact information or call 412-244-2940.  Don't delay - space is limited.   

eBooks 101

Everything you wanted to know about eBooks and electronic devices can be found HERE.  Choose from 1,000s of titles available to all library patrons.  

Crochet Classes

CROCHET Classes are continuing for beginners or experienced crocheters who need a refresher class. Frankie Turner has classes on Mondays at 2PM in the Adult Dept. of the Wilkinsburg Public Library and Saturdays at 11AM at Eastridge Branch Library. Contact the library to sign up for these FREE classes and find out what materials students must bring to class.
