Tai Chi Classes

Make it a healthy New Year with low impact Tai Chi exercise classes beginning Friday, January 23 at 10 AM.  Local Tai Chi instructor Mike Muscato is back to lead the ten weekly classes.

Tai Chi has been known to offer adults a multitude of benefits including improved balance and coordination, stress relief, aid in joint mobility and overall increased energy.

Health Care Listening Session

Join us for an open discussion on health care on Thursday, February 5 at 10 AM.  The Center for Health Information Activation has selected Wilkinsburg Public Library as one of its "listening session" sites for the county.

Participants will have the opportunity to share their experiences and involvement with their health care, as well as their comfort navigating the system, finding understandable information, and communication with their doctor.

Computer Classes

New six-week computer classes begin Wednesday, January 14.

Computer Basics - If you are new to computers or looking for a refresher of the basics, this class is for you.  Classes start at 10 AM.

MS Word - Take the next step and learn the basics of word processing: formatting text, creating a file, copying, cutting, pasting and more.  Classes start at 11:30 AM.

General Fiction Book Group

For a change of pace, a memoir, Azar Nafisi's Reading Lolita in Tehran, is this month's featured selection for Wednesday, January 28 at 1 PM.  Everyone is welcomed to join in the discussion of this award-winning bestseller.

The General Fiction Book Group meets the last Wednesday of each month.

Pittsburgh Memoir Project

Wilkinsburg Public Library has been selected as the first site for the Pittsburgh Memoir Project starting Tuesday, February 17 at 10 AM.  This six-session workshop will be repeated later in other area neighborhoods and communities.

Have you ever thought of writing the stoires of your life?  Have you wondered how to weave your memories into a story?

Creative writing facilitators Laurie Arnold McMillan and Jane McCafferty will lead participants in discovering the personal life storyteller in each of us.

Crochet Classes

Crochet Classes are continuing for both beginners as well as experienced crocheters looking for a refresher class.  Frankie has classes on Mondays at 2 PM in the adult dept. of the Wilkinsburg Public Libary and Saturdays at 11 AM at our Eastridge Branch Library.

Freegal Music Available to Library Cardholders

You can now download free music and video to your computer through Freegal at the Carnegie Libraries of Pittsburgh if you have a valid library card. Cardholders may download 5 free songs or 1 video and 1 song per week. A new tool for job searching is available.  Today, you have to apply for most jobs online. You will also need an email account to complete an online job application.  We have made it easy for you to get an email account and some guidlines for online job searching.  At the top of page click on Services, then click How to Apply for a Job.    Good luck finding your next job!

Need to create a resume and you don't know where to start?  Try Cypress Resume, a resume making software we now offer.  Click HERE to start using this easy, well organized program to create your own unique resume.   Enter your library card to get started.  Currently, the software is available only to library computer users but will be available through remote access soon.
