Library History

In 2000, Joel Minnigh, Wilkinsburg Public Library Director, felt there were Wilkinsburg residents not being served as well as they could be if there was a library closer to them. After looking at several sites, the First Church of Christ, Scientist, at 1900 Graham Boulevard appeared to be the perfect location. All we needed to do was convince them a library would be an asset to their building! Fortunately, it did not take much arm twisting – the church was as enthused as we were! Plans were formed and the library began to take shape in the fall of 2003. We opened the doors on December 6, 2003 amid a blizzard of snow.

Eastridge houses approximately 10,000 adult and children’s items. New books, magazines, reference, fiction and nonfiction, audiobooks on cassette and CD, VHS and DVD recordings comprise the collection. A separate children’s section is available and storyhours are scheduled weekly. Children can also participate in the Summer Reading Program at Eastridge.

Patrons are very happy to have a library so close to their homes and are using the library more and more. The staff is able to get patrons whatever titles they desire as long as they are in our system. Materials are delivered to Eastridge daily. Plan a visit to see Eastridge and explore all it has to offer.
